What made you want to study your course at the University?

Leeds is one of the few universities in the UK that offer both English Language and Literature as a single honours degree. Studying literature alongside language develops a valuable academic skill set. The lecturers are amazing, enthusiastic, and experts in their subject. The School of English itself is a beautiful Victorian terrace, and a perfect place for English students to study at degree level. The Special Collections at the University of Leeds holds a wealth of original material that can be used for exciting literary research. The city is also a short journey away from literary landmarks such as the Brontë Parsonage museum in Haworth.

Describe the aspects of the course that you have enjoyed the most.

I most enjoyed writing my dissertation about the Brontë sisters. This was an exciting project because I was able to research both at the Brontë Parsonage museum and the Special Collections at the University of Leeds. The English Language modules were brilliant as well. Alongside my studies, I was a volunteer in the English department at Todmorden High School.

What are you planning to do once you graduate?

I am now studying a Secondary PGCE to teach English to students aged 11-18. The University of Leeds is a fabulous place to study, and I now look forward to my teaching career.
