Postdoctoral opportunities

The School of English currently supports applications to the schemes listed below.  However, we are open to supporting applications to other appropriate schemes too.  If you have enquiries about other schemes the School might support, please contact the Director of Research and Innovation, Professor James Mussell: j.e.p.mussell@leeds.ac.uk

British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowships

The scheme is currently closed but we expect it to reopen in July with the deadline in October.

Those interested in applying should identify an appropriate mentor from within the School and work with them on their proposal.  Due to the number of enquiries we receive and the competitiveness of the scheme, we review applications prior to submission.  To allow time for this process, we will require drafts of applicants’ proposals, cvs, and a supporting statement from the mentor to review in mid-September with the final version to be submitted to the British Academy by the end of the month.

Leverhulme Early Career Fellowships

This scheme is also currently closed but we expect it to reopen over the summer with a deadline in February.

Due to how these Fellowships are funded, we run an internal competition to determine those applications we will support.  Candidates should identify a proposed mentor in the School and work with them on their applications.  For the purposes of the internal competition, we will require a draft research proposal (addressing the points set out in the Leverhulme guidance), a cv, and brief supporting statement from the mentor.  We will confirm the deadline in due course, but applicants should expect this to be early December.
