Retelling the Italian noir: Gianrico Carofiglio, with François von Hurter (BitterLemon Press) and Howard Curtis (translator) in conversation with Gigliola Sulis
The Italian award-winning novelist Gianrico Carofiglio visited us on 18th September 2013 on occasion of the English translation of his latest novel, Il silenzio dell'onda (The Silence of the Wave, tr. H.Curtis), published by Bitter Lemon Press in September 2013. The book was shortlisted for the Premio Strega in 2012, Italy's most prestigious literary prize.
Carofiglio was part of the roundtable Retelling the Italian Noir: Gianrico Carofiglio, with François von Hurter (Bitter Lemon Press) and Howard Curtis (translator), in conversation with Gigliola Sulis. The event was part of the international conference Retold, Resold, Transformed: Crime fiction in the Modern Era (Leeds, 17-18 September 2013).
The conference was co-organised by Christiana Gregoriou (English) David Platten (French), and Gigliola Sulis (Italian). It was attended by a large group of Italian scholars, scholars of Italian crime fiction, and Italian writers. The roundtable was sponsored by the Language, Linguistics and Translation group of the School of Languages, Cultures and Societies at the University of Leeds.
