Reviewing Dante's Theology

Dante reviewing dantes theology

The Leeds Centre for Dante Studies is launching a major research project on Dante's theology. This project brings together several of the world's leading scholars of Dante's theology, to produce the broadest possible overview of the poet's theological thought in a volume of essays. This volume, which will include chapters covering topics ranging from  "Christian Aristotelianism in Dante" and "The theology of Dante's political thought", will act both as a survey of scholarship on Dante, a reference point for students and scholars, and as a spur for future research.

An advisory board, made up of experts in Dante and in medieval theology more broadly, will help steer the project.

Participants in the project include:

  • Zygmunt Baranski (University of Cambridge)

  • Steven Botterill (University of California, Berkeley)

  • Simon Gilson (University of Warwick)
  • Claire Honess (University of Leeds)

  • Elena Lombardi (University of Bristol)

  • Ronald Martinez (Brown University)

  • Christian Moevs (University of Notre Dame)

  • Vittorio Montemaggi (University of Cambridge)

  • Paola Nasti (University of Reading)

  • Matthew Treherne (University of Leeds)

The project is supported by the University of Leeds Faculty of Arts, and by the British Academy.
