What made you choose Liberal Arts? 

I first learned about Liberal Arts from a friend I met while serving in the Singapore Civil Defence Force. Having given up on pursuing my education when I was 20, I found it very interesting and decided to try studying again. I was always interested in finding out more to do with the human condition. I believe strongly that as human beings we all have something in common and can live together without stigmatic barriers that may inhibit progression.  

How did you decide on your major subject? 

Philosophy has always been something I have been passionate about. It is something that I always understood but never really knew what it was. I used to read up on philosophical texts in my free time. Philosophy has always been interesting to me because one could derive concepts from just observing one’s surroundings.  

What is it that makes you passionate about your area of study? 

I am most passionate about learning the different thought processes of people, and the different perspectives of people of different times and backgrounds. Comparing and contrasting those views with mine in the modern society I find it interesting to be able to arrive at different epiphanies and in turn inspires me to be more curious with the world and its current affairs.  

What do you think of your course so far? 

I think my course is amazing at the moment. I enjoy the modules ‘The Digital World’, ‘Visions of Humanity’ and the core module because they encourage me to think and apply my knowledge, therefore I find it very stimulating to my mind and I look forward to these modules every week. I also like how it is based on seminars and lectures, and there are reflective journals to complete, in that way I get to see what my other classmates think about various topics. 

What would you say to anyone thinking of applying to your course? 

Jump on it. The professors are really good and helpful. The course is carried out in a very interesting way; I have never experienced anything like this before. The campus is nice and the libraries are also amazing. There is a very friendly environment in the campus and the student body exudes a warm and welcoming air.  

What do you plan to do once you’ve finished your course? 

I intend to travel the world and attempt to live life as a nomad, filling my life with experiences and knowledge of different cultures. I also intend to bring new ideas to wherever I am in the world in order to help solve some of the problems of the communities I visit if needed.  

Any other comments you would like to add? 

Come to Leeds, and enjoy the programme. Make the best out of life and always remain curious in regards to the events in the world that have happened in the past, in the present and events that may happen in future.
