Research placement

As a Liberal Arts student, you'll have the opportunity to develop research associations and relationships with partners and professionals outside of the University through our second-year Research Placement module.

This module allows you to work on a project which directly relates to ongoing research in the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Cultures, but can also involve local businesses, charities and community groups. We provide a wealth of external engagement opportunities that draw on the rich cultural and commercial life of our partners in Leeds and the wider Yorkshire region.

Working closely with an academic member of staff and a group of fellow students, you’ll conduct your own substantial piece of research and gain an understanding of the related issues and methodology. Throughout, you'll be able to apply your research in a public setting by, for example, curating a series of films on a particular theme or organising a public debate on a local issue.

At the end of the module, you'll present your work at an undergraduate research conference, giving you the chance to hone your communication skills. In these ways, the module enables you to make connections between your studies in the classroom and the world beyond the University, so preparing you for employment.
