Description
Dengue fever, which causes hundreds of millions of infections annually, has been framed largely as a so-called 'emerging' and/or 'neglected' tropical disease. However, that characterisation stems from perspectives rooted in the Global North. This project sets out to critically interrogate and challenge such framings by uncovering for the first time the myriad ways in which Southeast Asian and Latin American scientists pioneered new approaches to vector control, epidemiology and treatment of dengue. It will therefore offer an innovative Global South-grounded history of tropical disease that will interest historians, social scientists, and medical and health experts of tropical medicine.
