Developing a Co-Produced, Digital and Living Archive of Learning Disability History

Value

£805,223

Description

This project used participatory research methods with a research team with and without learning disabilities to promote self-advocacy and provide an avenue of instigating social change. The research developed a co-produced ‘living’ archive of learning disability history using digital heritage and digital accessibility methods, in addition to exploring the issues in doing so.

The School partnered with the Open University’s Faculty of Health and Social Care (lead research organisation) and the Rix Centre of the University of East London to develop this archive. The project has engaged a range of stakeholders, including those working in the arts, heritage and museums sector, education, technology, new media, and health and social care.

The project funding also provided a full time PhD studentship, undertaken by Carley Stubbs, within the School of Fine Art History of Art and Cultural Studies.
