One of my favourite elements of studying History of Art at Leeds is sharing the School with BA Fine Art and BA Cultural and Media Studies students. I think this unique opportunity encourages us to think about art in really exciting, new ways and is evidenced in the interdisciplinary approach taken to teaching the subject.

There’s an amazing variety of modules to take within the School, as well as the option to study discovery modules in pretty much any other School across the University.So far I’ve had the chance to write essays on a broad range of topics from musical theatre to the contemporary art market, all under the guidance of some of the leading academics in their respective fields.

As History of Art students we are given a lot of creative freedom, which has really helped me to develop my research interests and outlook ― at the same time, the education we get is rigorous, and I know that I will graduate with a really solid understanding of key themes surrounding the history of art.

The University offers loads of opportunities to gain useful skills, including the Undergraduate Research and Leadership scholarship which I was fortunate to receive in my first year of study. Through the scholarship scheme I have undertaken extensive research, providing me with the valuable experience of working directly with academics in my faculty and developing my study skills and confidence.

As well as this, I have been able to connect with other Research and Leadership scholars across the University. I would definitely recommend the scheme to anyone thinking of studying at Leeds!  Getting involved in extracurricular activities such as scholarship work and joining student societies has made my time at University so far really memorable.
