Participation and Systemic Practice Research Group
The Participation and Systemic Practice Research Group brings together academics, students and community collaborators committed to generating knowledge through creative, action-led and participatory methods.
Through workshops, events, and network meetings, we are interested in exploring the intellectual debates surrounding participation, as well as the tensions and possibilities it generates in practice.
Emerging from the group’s previous conversations, this year’s theme is "Re-Reading Read & Other Things: Anarchism, Art & Participation". Areas of interest include:
- the School’s historic roots in radical pedagogy through the work of the anarchist Herbert Read;
- political traditions and genealogies of participation and anarchism;
- cooperation and ways of organising;
- methods of thinking, being, and knowing together.
We plan to explore these themes through a new online reading group, Re-Reading Read & Other Things, as well as through practical engagement with Read’s archive in the University of Leeds Special Collections.
Membership of the group includes academics, postgraduate researchers, taught postgraduate students, community collaborators, and activists linked to research projects and networks.
