What made you want to apply to your course and to Leeds?
The 24/7 access to studios and the arts culture and galleries in Leeds. Leeds has a great artists network, and coming to Leeds was like an explosion of creatives.
Can you talk about your practice now, and how the course and opportunities around it has helped you to develop?
The ability to experiment and build a practice independently has been essential to my creative development and understanding of materials. I’ve had great opportunity to experiment with ideas in the university, and then take it out into the city. I’ve been very fortunate to collaborate outside the university as well as inside, to get some funding and commissions for large-scale sculptures. I think Leeds as a city has really facilitated me being able to experiment in this way.
How do you think the skills and knowledge you’ve developed at Leeds will help with your career plans?
Regular group crits have made me confident in discussing my practice as an artist. Writing a dissertation has also given me the opportunity to have deep specialist knowledge in a field which will be of use to me in my future career.
