Please tell us a bit about yourself and your background?

I come from a small village outside of Lancaster, towards the Lake District. I am a keen competitive ballroom and Latin dancer and lover of music.

What made you want to apply to your course and to Leeds?

I really loved the union when I visited the University on the open day and I was aware of the vast number and range of societies. In particular, I was keen to join a ballroom society, an opportunity I didn’t have at home but something I’d always wanted to try. I was also attracted to the modules available on the course and the possibility of choosing discovery modules. 

What is it that makes you passionate about your area of study?

The questions in philosophy surround the foundations of life, the nature of our existence and the structure of reality. I was attracted to studying a subject relevant to every being on the planet and I was keen to investigate and potentially challenge the presumptions that we make every day.

What aspects of the course did you enjoy the most?  

Any teaching from Professor Robin Le Poidevin was highlight for me! Also, as difficult as it was I loved studying logic because I was fascinated by how converting an argument into a language of symbols could enable us to discover whether said argument was valid and consistent. However, my favourite modules were the metaphysics ones.

What would you say to anyone thinking of applying to your course?

It is what you make it. Learn from first year the modules that you enjoyed the most, you’re favourite staff members and your preferred method of assessment. Make use of office hours from the get go. I went for guidance from staff every time I was planning an assessment.
