parallax
Elegant, literate, questioning, preposterous at times, never the least bit boring - parallax is that rare and wonderful thing, a real critical journal.
In the flood of bland, semi-identical publications now credentialling cultural studies, it stands out bright as a beacon.
parallax is an internationally recognised scholarly journal with a reputation for bringing together outstanding new work in cultural studies, critical theory and continental philosophy.
Founded in 1995 within the School of Fine Art, History of Art and Cultural Studies at the University of Leeds, parallax is published by Taylor & Francis and is ranked Q1 (Impact Factor and CiteScore Best Quartile) and indexed in the Arts and Humanities Citation Index® among others.
parallax is a quarterly journal that only publishes themed issues. As such, parallax never considers individual articles, but welcomes issue proposals from prospective Guest Editors. Each issue aims to provoke exploratory, interdisciplinary thinking and debate, and provides a forum for a wide spectrum of perspectives on a topical question or concern.
parallax engages with debates in cultural studies, critical theory, cultural history, continental philosophy, gender studies, queer theory, postcolonial theory, English and comparative literature, aesthetics, art history and visual cultures among many others.
Guest Editors
Each issue of parallax is organised and edited by a Guest Editor (or a team of Guest Editors) under the guidance of the parallax editorial team (Executive and Associate Editors) according to a formal agreement setting out a detailed timeline and the Guest Editor’s responsibilities throughout the process.
Potential Guest Editors who wish to submit an issue proposal to the editorial team are advised to consult the parallax Guidelines for Issue Proposals.
Associate Editors
parallax offers a small number of part-time Associate Editorships to postgraduate students at the University of Leeds, who work at the journal with the Executive Editor, typically for a period of two years. Openings are announced periodically via the AHC Graduate School Postgraduate Researcher mailing list.
Associate Editors work as a team to produce the journal, and gain valuable experience in academic publishing and by working with major and emergent international scholars.
