An MA by Research in the School of Music allows you to take a period of sustained independent research at Masters level.
You can complete this postgraduate research degree in one year (full-time) or two years (part-time).
Studying part-time allows you to continue your career alongside your studies and to schedule supervision sessions to fit around your working life.
This type of research study works through close one-to-one supervision, tailored specifically to the needs of the project and your research requirements. You'll write a thesis of approximately 30,000 words on a subject of your choice.
Scholarship and fees
You may be eligible to apply for a range of scholarships.
Fees for research degrees are set independently and reviewed on annual basis.
You should hold a good honours degree (upper second class or first class) in a related discipline, and hold, or expect to obtain, a Masters degree in a related subject.
If English is not your first language, you will also need an English language qualification, for example IELTS 6.5 with at least 6.0 in all components. If you fail to meet these requirements you may still be offered a place dependent on completion of a pre-sessional English language course offered by the University’s Language Centre.
