Research degrees

Whether you’re looking to begin your academic career or want to develop your skills and expertise for a career in industry, studying a research degree will be a journey that will stimulate your passion for your subject and push you to reach your potential. 

Our research degrees can be studied full-time or part-time and we also offer practice-led PhD and a PhD by distance-learning. 

We have an international reputation for research (REF2014) and bring together a community of acclaimed scholars, composers and performers.

Our academic staff come from a range of professional, academic and cultural backgrounds and work across musicology, music psychology, composition, performance, business and music, and electronic and computer music.
