Please tell us a bit about yourself and your background?

As an international student from Indonesia, the government of the Republic of Indonesia awarded me a scholarship to pursue a master's degree in film studies. 

Please tell us about any recent or current projects you are working on. Was this project something you started as part of your course? How has being on the course helped you with this?

Since I have previously concentrated my research exclusively on documentary films, I am excited to delve more into this topic as it is my area of expertise, and I am now working on a project about authorship in documentary films. I have already published a documentary book, and now I am looking forward to having the results of my research published in International Indexed journals after completing my Masters degree.

What made you want to apply to your Masters course and to Leeds?

As one of world’s top universities, Leeds offers a plethora of academic modules that afford me the opportunity to delve into my passion and interest for film development, particularly in the realm of contemporary cinema. 

What is it that makes you passionate about your area of study?

My previous professional experience as a Researcher and Educator encompasses a vast array of national television, animation, commercial video, and film production has prepared me well for reflection and comprehension of the course's materials.

What aspects of the course are you enjoying the most?  

The integration of lecture sessions, extensive reading, and dynamic seminar discussions facilitated a holistic understanding of the materials. 

What would you say about the learning facilities in your School and at the University in general?

Excellent! I am thoroughly impressed and satisfied with the various facilities offered at this institution, including the (24/7) library, art gallery, student club and union, and facilities for our friends with disabilities. 

Did you work closely with a particular tutor or member or the University’s academic staff? Tell us about that experience.

I’m honoured to be selected as a student representative of MA Film Studies by the Programme Leader Dr Rachel Johnson. I used to have regular meetings with the lecturers and university staff where we closely discussed improving the study materials and facilities.

What other activities are available for students to take part in outside of their studies, and which ones have you tried out yourself? 

The university provides a wide array of activities that cater to both academic pursuits and overall well-being programmes. The School of Languages, Cultures and Societies offers a variety of engaging events, such as film screenings and seminars, which are organised by the MA Film Studies programme in collaboration with esteemed stakeholders. These events provide valuable opportunities for students to learn from industry practitioners.

What do you plan to do when you’ve finished your course, and how do you think the skills and knowledge you’ve developed/are developing at Leeds will help with these plans?

I am intending to pursue a career as a lecturer in my home country and further my academic journey by pursuing a PhD.
