Scholarships

There are many ways to fund your postgraduate studies. Students often seek funding from a variety of sources including university scholarships, loans, sponsors or external funding bodies. Find out more about the different types of funding available.

We also provide subject-specific scholarships, which you can view below. 

Before you apply for any funding, you'll need to have applied to your chosen course. You can apply for more than one funding opportunity, but may have to choose which ones to accept if your applications are successful.

Title Summary
Leeds Alumni Bursary Graduates of the University of Leeds are entitled to a 10% bursary on tuition fees.
Sasakawa postgraduate studentships in Japanese studies Available to students proposing to pursue either MA Film Studies with a focus on Japanese cinema, MA by Research in Japanese Studies or a PhD in Japanese studies, starting October 2024. PhD students in their first and second year of study are also eligible to enrol.

UK only

Title Summary
Head of School Masters Scholarship The School of Languages, Cultures and Societies is offering five scholarships of £2500 that will provide a contribution towards academic fees.
Leeds Masters Scholarships Leeds Masters Scholarships aim to encourage UK fee-paying students from under-represented groups to study a postgraduate qualification.

International only

Title Summary
School of Languages, Cultures and Societies International Excellence Scholarship These competitive scholarships are awarded to particularly deserving candidates in the form of a 10% deduction of the full tuition fee.
