Amber Callender
- Course: MA Fashion, Enterprise and Society
I studied my undergraduate degree in English Literature but whilst studying I developed a love for fashion and sewing! Originally I had planned to work in films and write screenplays, so I had a creative background, but moving on to a design course was something completely new for me - doing a masters was definitely a step up, especially as the design side of things was so new, but I got into the swing of things and have really loved my course
I chose my course because I plan on launching my own womenswear brand after uni and this course combines design with the business side of things. I was particularly interested in the fashion marketing module, being a consumer myself I was interested to see how the market is targeted.
I think teaching is definitely influenced by the industry experience of the academic staff, some of the staff have amazing stories to tell about their own experience working in fashion and it adds so much character to their teaching, it also puts academic learning into a real context
Whilst studying for my masters I interned at The Gypsy Shrine in Content & Research. I am basing my final MA project on the womenswear brand I am developing and hope to launch this at the end of the year. Although this will be a main focus of mine I'd also like to get a job or internship at either a fashion magazine or brand, as I love writing, however working at a brand would be very insightful and help with the development of my own brand.
