Continuous Professional Development

The aim of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) in the School of Design is to support the training needs of the textile and fashion industry. This includes manufacturers, retailers, brands, scientific organisations and allied services for the industry. We have subject specialists, with industrial experience and strong underpinning of innovation & sustainability, who cover the full spectrum of the textile manufacturing chain.

In the subject of textile science and technology, there is a significant knowledge gap in this industry. CPD courses in the School of Design are devised to meet such need by bringing together academic experts, industry experts and business experts to offer the latest knowledge.

Those who will benefit

Our courses attract regular clientele from many national and international companies, including large corporate companies, along with many well-known names on the high street, and public sector (includes HM Civil Services and Ministry of Defence).

The individuals/teams involved in manufacturing, sourcing and selection, merchandising, retail or buying will benefit enormously from our courses. The link between theory to practice is key element of the courses.

Short courses

Our large folio of courses is carried out on a repeating basis throughout the academic year and our courses are designed to provide training from one to five days in duration depending on the subjects covered. These are set courses each with their own structure.

In-company training

A number of companies prefer to commission in-house bespoke training programmes. To meet this need we offer courses to individual clients that can be held at either their own premises or at their own selected venue. The benefits of this are:

  • cost effectiveness, especially where there is a need to train number of employees/teams at the same time

  • sensitive information remains confidential

  • course programme being tailored to the company’s requirements

Please feel free to contact us to discuss your needs.

Subject areas

We offer a range of CPD short courses, through our Textiles Training Group, to meet the needs of those working in the textiles, fashion and nonwoven industries.

Our professional development courses cover a broad range of subject areas including:

  • textile technology
  • buying
  • sourcing

We can offer a mixture of options from 1-day short courses to 5-day training programmes. As well as our annual programme of courses, we can also provide bespoke in-house training, please contact us to discuss options in more detail.
