Liao Haoran, MA Design student

Haoran Liao

What made you want to apply to your MA Design?

I am interested in art and design. I have always considered what approaches can be made and utilised to change the world and found that through design I could implement effective change. Design can change people’s behaviour, habits and even their daily life.

The course is quite different because it welcome students from all disciplines and anyone who has design skills can apply for this course. I often meet students from other courses and when their point of view is different it can spark my inspiration.

What aspects of the course did you enjoy the most?

I think I enjoyed studying the user-centred theory. Before I came here, I considered design to simply be about creative thinking but now I think design consists of lots of aspects, such as psychology, anthropology and sociology.

Outside of your course, what other activities did you take part in?

There are many activities available to students. The Edge is a good place to work out, and there are many clubs and societies to join. The Student Union also has activities to take part in.

What do you plan to do now you’ve finished your course, and how do you think the skills and knowledge you’ve developed at Leeds will help with these plans?

I am going to find a job in the UK. I have learnt new design skills and I want to find a role where I can exemplify those skills.
