Oxford Handbook of the Philosophy of Artificial Intelligence

Description

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is perhaps unique among technical subjects in that it has raised not only fundamental questions about the nature of learning, perception, reasoning, computing, language, action, interaction, consciousness, humankind, life etc., but also contributed to answering these basic questions.

In the early decades of AI, after its ‘founding’ in 1956, optimism was enormous and theoretical criticism was severe, then a certain soberness set in; but in the last decade, AI has regained momentum, re-entered the public discussion and the foundational discussions have become interesting again. It is time to take stock and to re-set the agenda for the ‘philosophy of AI’.
