Our research degrees allow you to conduct extended independent research into a subject of your choice. You’ll gain in-depth knowledge of your field, and make a meaningful contribution to it in return.
In the 2014 Research Excellence Framework, over 80% of the University’s research was deemed to be world leading or internationally excellent. As a research student with us, you’ll be a valued part of this innovative community.
There are two ways to join us as a research student. You can study for an MRes, which allows you to undertake research at Masters level, or you can pursue a PhD, which involves more extensive research for a longer period.
You can study for both of our research degrees through distance learning, allowing you to gain an advanced degree alongside other commitments.
You’ll receive the same amount of supervision as students based on campus, and specialist support from our Centre and the wider University.
Enhance your studies
We’ll help you make the most of your time with us, whether you’re studying on campus or from a distance. You’ll have access to funding opportunities, careers guidance, skills training, and more.
