Funding and scholarships

As a research student with us you'll have access to funding opportunities, and within our Centre we offer several scholarships to help support you during your studies. Scholarship and bursary opportunities will be published here in Autumn 2018. In the meantime, search the University's scholarship database.

You can apply to study for a research degree with us at any time in the year, but keep in mind that funding opportunities will have specific application deadlines.

Postgraduate Doctoral Loan

The government-backed loan can help contribute towards course fees and living costs while you study. To qualify for a Postgraduate Doctoral Loan you must meet all of the eligibility criteria and if you are approved for the Loan you do not need to pay your fees up front. 

Leeds Doctoral Scholarship

The Leeds Doctoral Scholarship offers a number of funded scholarships across many discipline and is awarded in recognition of excellence. The applications for this scholarship have now closed for 2019.

AHC Doctoral Scholarships

The Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Cultures has a number of scholarships available to support postgraduate researchers starting a PhD.

The applications for this scholarship have now closed for 2019.

Alumni bursary

If you are a former student of the University of Leeds you may be eligible for a 10% alumni tuition fee bursary.

Employer sponsorship

Studying for a research degree will equip you with transferable skills and knowledge that is highly relevant to many professional settings.

As our students are in an excellent position to add value for their employers, many receive financial support from their organisations while they study with us.
