Postgraduate Translation and Interpreting Conferences

Power, Ideology and Beyond – 22 June 2017

The organising committee invited postgraduate students and early career researchers to submit abstracts for twenty-minute oral presentations. In addition to the parallel sessions, the conference also included talks by keynote speakers and a roundtable discussion. The working language of the conference was English. 

The one day conference was an excellent opportunity for postgraduate students and early career researchers with an interest in translation and interpreting studies to present and discuss their research in an intellectually stimulating environment at the University of Leeds. 

The organising committee welcomed abstracts on the following sub-themes related to current trends in translation and interpreting studies, including: 

  • Gender, culture and ideology in translation 
  • Political discourse, power and media translation 
  • Literary translation from/into English 
  • Specialised translation from/into English 
  • Interpreting in conflict zones 
  • Translation technology: current and future trends 
  • Translator and interpreter training

  • Professor Jeremy Munday, University of Leeds

From Current Trends to Future Insights – 27 March 2015

This conference was held with support from the Languages, Cultures and Societies Postgraduate Research Conference Award.

The organising committee invited proposals from postgraduate students and early career researchers throughout the UK to give twenty-minute papers. The conference included talks by keynote speakers and a round table.
It was an excellent opportunity for postgraduate students and early career researchers with an interest in translation and interpreting studies to present and discuss their research in an intellectually stimulating environment at the University of Leeds.

The conference particularly addressed the following themes:

  • Issues around current trends in translation and interpreting studies 
  • Politics and media translation 
  • Literary translation 
  • Translation in the Arab World 
  • Interface between translation and technology 
  • Translator training
