What made you want to study your course at the University?

I came from Scunthorpe, a steel working town in the East and didn’t think I wanted to go to university until last minute. I applied later than everyone else, and wrote 3 different personal statements and made a portfolio to apply for 3 different courses because I was so unsure what I wanted to do. I was hesitant about doing straight Linguistics or straight English Language but found a nice compromise at the University of Leeds.

Describe the aspects of the course that you have enjoyed the most.

I loved living in halls. I lived in North Hill Court – a set of flats behind James Bailey. There was about 80 of us altogether, so we had an amazing sense of community and I have lived with people from halls my entire university life.

I think the LUU (Leeds University Union) is amazing, the parties there and the sheer amount of societies you can join is amazing. Over the years I’ve tried snowboarding, surfing, life drawing, basketball and loads of other stuff through societies. I would not say I got any better at any of these things but I had a lot of fun.

Tell us about your year in industry.

I worked in Spain during my year in industry. I would recommend this experience to everyone, it will make you grow up and appreciate things a lot more. I had a lot of fun living and working in Spain and a lot of experiences I will never forget.

What are you planning to do once you graduate?

I am planning to remain in Leeds, and have just been offered a position at a legal firm in the city centre.
