Documentation of Modern South Arabian workshop, Salalah
Janet Watson and Ali al-Mahri conduct a five day workshop.
Under the auspices of Nizwa University in collaboration with the Centre for Endangered Languages, Cultures and Ecosystems at the University of Leeds, Janet Watson and Ali al-Mahri will conduct a five-day workshop on documentation methods for Modern South Arabian and Arabic dialects from 26-30 August 2018, in Salalah.
The workshop will be held at the Public Library Book House - مكتبة دار الكتاب العامة - and will run from 9am until noon prayer, and then for two hours after lunch each day. It will include practical training in ethical research, metadata, the use of digital sound and video recorders, transcription and annotation using ELAN, and archiving using YARN, developed by Simon Popple. Short field trips for practical video training will be included.
