SPLAS Film Club Screens Catalan Film Mamífera Ahead of Upcoming Online Panel with Director Liliana Torres
The Institut Ramon Llull supported activity introducing students to contemporary Catalan cinema ahead of a live discussion with the director.
On Wednesday 19 November, the SPLAS Film Club hosted a screening of ‘Mamífera’ (Liliana Torres, 2024), which took place in Parkinson Building 1.08 and was free to attend. The film was shown in Catalan with English subtitles.
Mamífera follows Lola, who finds her life unexpectedly transformed by a pregnancy she never wanted. As she confides in friends and family, Lola navigates conflicting emotions, fears, and desires while negotiating her place within societal norms. María Rodríguez Soto delivers an intimate performance as Lola, alongside Enric Auquer as Bruno.
Participation in the Institut Ramon Llull Online Event
The session formed part of a wider programme of activities supported by the Institut Ramon Llull. In connection with this, students taking Catalan will also be participating in the upcoming online event: a film screening and panel discussion of ‘Mamífera’ with director Liliana Torres and producer Carla Sospedra, taking place on 27 November 2025 at 17:00.
This online session, organised for Xarxa Llull students in the UK and Ireland, will offer the opportunity to hear directly from the creators about the film’s development, its themes, and the creative process behind its storytelling.
