New Prize Launched for the Best Undergraduate Research Project in Catalan Studies
New prize rewards top undergraduate research in Catalan Studies, offering conference funding and academic recognition, with applications open May-June 2026.
The Anglo-Catalan Society, with the support of the Institut Ramon Llull, has announced the launch of the First Prize for the Best Research Project in Catalan Studies, a new initiative designed to recognise academic excellence and promote the study of Catalan language and culture among undergraduate students in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
The prize is open to students who have completed an independent research project (such as a final year project) during the 2025-2026 academic year in any area of Catalan Studies, including language, literature, history, culture or society. Submissions may be written in either English or Catalan and should reflect original research carried out as part of an undergraduate degree.
In addition to celebrating outstanding academic work, the prize aims to encourage students to further engage with Catalan Studies and to support their transition into postgraduate research. The selection process will be carried out by a panel of experts in the field, including academics and Xarxa Llull lecturers from universities across the UK and Ireland.
The winner will receive a grant to attend the Anglo-Catalan Society’s annual conference, to be held in autumn 2026. The award includes conference registration, one year’s membership of the society, and a contribution towards travel and accommodation costs. The recipient will also be awarded a certificate of recognition and may be invited to present their research at the conference.
The application period will run from 15 May to 30 June 2026, with the results expected between late July and early September. Applicants are required to submit their research project along with relevant academic details by email. Applications should be submitted by email to the organisers, Dr Laia Benavent-Llinares (University of Birmingham) and Dr Glòria Ribugent (University of Leeds), including the research project and the required academic details.
Further details, including the full terms and conditions of the call, are available via the official guidelines, available here.
