Catalan Winter Celebration Returns: SPLAS to Host Festa de Nadal on 11 December

Festa de Nadal brings festive traditions, treats, and the arrival of the tió to campus

The School of Languages, Cultures and Societies at the University of Leeds is getting ready to celebrate ‘Festa de Nadal’, a Catalan Festive event taking place on Wednesday 11 December at 14:30 in the SPLAS Patio, Michael Sadler Building (Floor 2).

Organised in collaboration with Institut Ramon Llull, the celebration will introduce students and staff to one of Catalonia’s most beloved festive traditions: the ‘tió de Nadal’. Participants will have the chance to make the ‘tió’ “poop” presents, enjoy traditional Catalan winter treats, and practise a bit of Catalan in a relaxed and cheerful atmosphere.

In the lead-up to the event, the ‘tió’ itself will be arriving this week at the SPLAS patio, ready to be “fed” until the big day. Do not hesitate to leave him some stale bread, orange peels or whatever that you have on hand, so he is full and ready for the big day.
