Being Asexual - a new paper from Dr Natasha McKeever

A new article asks what it's like to share physical intimacy and love, without sexual attraction.

Dr Natasha McKeever and Dr Luke Brunning (University of Birmingham) have published an insightful new paper exploring the complex connections between asexuality, romantic love and sexual activity.

“Asexuality has yet to be taken seriously. But if we attend to asexuality, we arrive at a better understanding of both romantic love and sexual activity,” the paper explains.

“We see, for example, that romantic love, even in its early stages, need not involve sexual attraction or activity, and we are also reminded that sex can be enjoyed in many different ways.”

The paper is now available to read on Aeon – a digital magazine of provocative thinking and serious enquiry – with the option to listen to an audio reading version.
