Book Contract Signed: The Ethics of Objectification by Dr Rosa Vince

Rosa Vince, CLSR's Leverhulme Research Fellow, has just signed a contract with Bloomsbury Publishing for a book called The Ethics of Objectification

Here is how they described the project:

“My goal with “The Ethics of Objectification” is to issue a course-correction for feminist theory and ac tivism on objectification. I argue that objectification is not always harmful, and that if we want to combat those harmful instances, we need to shift the focus away from porn and strip clubs, and onto other forms of media and entertainment. When philosophers converge on criticising porn but not romcoms (for example), we not only miss the impact of many more pervasive and pernicious forms of objectification, we also reinforce the idea that sex itself is dirty, and we reinforce the stigmatisation of sex workers’
 
The book is for anyone interested in objectification, including policy makers. Readers will learn that we cannot use ‘objectification’ as a rationale for heavily restricting sexual entertainment and expect women to be better off. Rather, we need to create a culture where individuals are ultimately in control of whether and when they are sexually objectified.”
