Dr Juha Saatsi

I am Associate Professor at School of Philosophy, Religion, and History of Science, where I started working in 2007. My expertise is on philosophy of science, in which I have published 5 edited collections and numerous journal articles. I have directed several funded research projects (AHRC, Templeton, BA), and held various visiting fellowships at leading universities around the world. Amongst various external service activities I have been a member of the executive committee of the British Society for the Philosophy of Science.

Research interests

Much of my work is on scientific realism and scientific explanations, and their intersection. I often study these topics in relation to history and philosophy of physics. My recent work includes editing a major handbook of scientific realism, and a collection of new essays on non-causal explanation. The next edited volume (soon out) will focus on scientific realism and quantum physics. I am currently finishing a monograph on scientific realism and science of light.

I also work on laws of nature, reduction/emergence, and other topics in metaphysics of science, as well as selected topics in philosophy of physics. Other prominent research interests include philosophical naturalism, and models and representation in science. I’m keen to work with motivated PhD students in any of these broad areas.

See my personal webpage for further details and online papers.
