Profile

I am a second-year PhD candidate in Philosophy at the University of Leeds, funded by a School of PRHS scholarship. Before coming to Leeds, I completed my MA in Philosophy at USI (Lugano) with a visiting semester spent at LMU (Munich). Before that, I completed my BA in Philosophy at Ca’ Foscari University (Venice) with a research semester spent at the University of Geneva. My background studies focused on metaphysics and philosophy of physics, as well as history of philosophy and of science.

Research interests

My research project focuses on the so-called “challenge of empirical incoherence” for physical theories. By studying cases of theoretical self-defeat in physics, I aim to assess the interplay between their structure and more general questions in epistemology and the philosophy of science (such as misleading higher-order evidence, external-world skepticism, and scientific progress). My focus so far has been on empirical incoherence in various interpretations of quantum mechanics, where the topic closely relates to traditional puzzles such as the measurement problem and Schrödinger’s cat scenario. Empirical incoherence is also relevant for proposals in Quantum Gravity, Wave Function Realism, and the Boltzmann Brains scenario. Besides this, I am interested in the philosophy of perception, and in particular questions surrounding mental imagery and illusions.
