People, Place, Power Conference

Over 220 people arrived in Doncaster for the conference.

Last month over 220 people arrived in Doncaster for the People, Place, Power conference, which was managed by Dr Leila Jancovich, Lecturer in Cultural and Creative Industries in the School. The conference aimed to facilitate shared learning between academics, arts practitioners and policy makers in relation to theories and practice on participation in the arts.  Key note speakers included, Darren Henley, Chief Executive of Arts Council England, Lynsey Hanley who has written extensively about the relationship of culture and class, and a number of artists working in different fields of practice.

It follows on from work Leila has done over the last few years at Leeds Beckett University where she developed a knowledge exchange network with over 500 members. This conference involved a collaboration with Creative People and Places, a £37 million Arts Council England action research programme, and findings from the conference including recordings of the key notes can be found on the knowledge exchange website
