Stan Erraught

Profile

I'm from Dublin and had a long career as a guitar player, songwriter, performing and touring musician and producer with various bands based there before moving into stage and production management in the festival and live music area. I combined this with a belated return to academia; an MA (Essex) and then a PhD (NUI/ UCD) in philosophy, specialising in Critical Theory and Kantian and post Kantian Idealism with particular reference to the relation between politics and aesthetics. My PhD thesis (2010) was entitled Kant's Political Aesthetic: Time, Space and Judgement. I was an adjunct and associate lecturer at UCD and at Trinity College Dublin between 2010 and 2012, teaching at UG and PG level in Critical Theory and Political Philosophy more generally.

I moved sideways into a music related role at Bucks New University in High Wycombe, where I was, first Senior Lecturer and then Principal Lecturer in Music and Event Management (2013–2017).

I joined the School of Music in Leeds in September 2018.

I have given numerous conference papers and presentations in all the above areas (and more!). In early 2018 I published a monograph on Music, Value and Utopia: Nostalgia for an Age Yet to Come? (Rowman and Littlefield)
