Music as Culture

Our research explores musical cultures of the past and present from a wide range of methodological perspectives. Specialisms include historical musicology, archival studies, aesthetics, critical and cultural theory, reception studies, music and literature, music and politics, music and the moving image, ethnography, analytical methodologies, history and sociology of music technology, ecomusicology, performance studies, global musicology, popular music studies, and music industry studies. Our collaborative research is international in scope and engages museums, galleries and other cultural organisation and institutions.
