Making Music

We are leaders in practice-based research methodologies in composition and performance. The work of our award-winning composers embraces acoustic, electronic and computer composition, and engages with multi-disciplinary approaches to creativity. We work closely with internationally-recognised performers and we engage in collaborative compositional processes, while our researchers explore the integration of research and performance.
The cluster encompasses a broad range of practice research including but not limited to composition, performance, improvisation, technological innovation and applied research. Areas of study can be interdisciplinary and cover a broad range of aesthetics of creativity, performance practices including historically-informed approaches, areas of both performer/the instrumental and conducting, and critical and experimental methodologies as well as the composer-performer interface/aspects of collaboration.
