The podcast episode was part of the Global Health Matters series produced by the TDR, The Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases. TDR is co-sponsored by UNICEF, the United Nations Development Programme, the World Bank, and the World Health Organization.
 
Professor Bhattacharya was an invited guest to the programme, together with Professor Anne-Emmanuelle Birn from the University of Toronto, and host Dr Garry Aslanyan from TDR. Originally broadcast in May 2023, the programme was the most-listened to episode in the series for the whole year, as reported on TDR’s LinkedIn page.
 
Professor Bhattacharya contributed his expertise on the value of history in showing the importance of understanding the multiple narratives and experiences which determine the course of public health matters such as pandemics. 
 

History matters because it allows us a better understanding of how we’ve got here today, and how we can function in better, more inclusive ways. […] History matters, but we always have to ask which history is mattering, because there are multiple histories.
