The Centre for Global Health Histories draws its strength from expertise across the Faculty of Arts, Humanities, and Cultures and the wider University. The Faculty has established expertise in the form of the Medical Humanities Research Group and the School of Medicine has a specialized theme of International Health Research. The School of History has a research cluster on the theme of Health Histories. The Centre for Global Health Histories works in collaboration with other Faculties and wide-ranging external partners in global, international, and national health governance, and civil society and non-government organization sectors.
Members of the Centre for Global Health Histories work particularly closely with multiple World Health Organization and United Nations Divisions and Programmes around the world. The Centre provides focused support to the Global Health Histories project that originated at the WHO headquarters in Geneva in 2004. Since then the WHO GHH project has drawn on the support of its regional offices, WHO member countries, university affiliates globally, and partner organizations such as the British Medical Journal, The Lancet, Wellcome Trust, Fiocruz (Federal Ministry of Health, Brazil), the Sri Lankan Health Ministry, and the Sri Lankan College for Medical Administrators.
