Principles of Curriculum and Assessment Design short course 2025-26

Course overview

Course overview

By completing this module you’ll reach an in-depth understanding and be able to critique current knowledge and issues in English for Academic Purposes (EAP) related to curriculum and syllabus design, assessment and feedback.

You’ll demonstrate the progress in your understanding of the field by developing your own syllabus based on a needs analysis (including questionnaire and ethnographic study) and demonstrate how it is appropriate to the context, and based on clear EAP-informed principles and values.

This short course is a module taken from the MA in Teaching English for Academic Purposes. You’ll study this credit-bearing module as an individual course to widen your knowledge in English for Academic Purposes (EAP) and develop your skills within the field. You’ll study online and part-time, on a course that’s designed to fit around your commitments. You’ll study with experts in the field at the University of Leeds Language Centre, who are directly involved in the practice and development of teaching English for Academic Purposes.

We have a range of Masters-level short courses available to help you develop as a practitioner of EAP, explore new approaches and prepare to take the next step in your career. You’ll gain postgraduate credits when you complete each course, and you can use these credits towards a Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert), a Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip), or a Masters (MA). To find out more about building credits towards a qualification, contact our admissions team at lcspg@leeds.ac.uk.
