Text Analysis short course 2025-26

Course overview

Course overview

Studying this course, you’ll develop an ability to analyse academic texts from various perspectives in the context of scholarly literature and pedagogical application. These texts will draw on literature within a range of academic contexts, and you’ll evaluate approaches to text analyses for pedagogical and research purposes.

You’ll apply and critically evaluate these approaches for the purposes of teaching, scholarship and research. You’ll demonstrate the ability to apply your knowledge of the field to professional practice, justify the choices you make and consider the implications of these within higher education.

This short course is a module taken from the MA in Teaching English for Academic Purposes. You’ll study this credit-bearing module as an individual course to widen your knowledge in English for Academic Purposes (EAP) and develop your skills within the field. You’ll study online and part-time, on a course that’s designed to fit around your commitments. You’ll study with experts in the field at the University of Leeds Language Centre, who are directly involved in the practice and development of teaching English for Academic Purposes.

We have a range of Masters-level short courses available to help you develop as a practitioner of EAP, explore new approaches and prepare to take the next step in your career. You’ll gain postgraduate credits when you complete each course, and you can use these credits towards a Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert), a Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip), or a Masters (MA). To find out more about building credits towards a qualification, contact our admissions team at lcspg@leeds.ac.uk.
