New volume of Northern History out now
Northern History was the first regional historical journal in England. It was established in the School of History by Gordon Forster in 1966.
Volume 60, issue 1 of the journal of Northern History includes open-access and subscription-only articles, and a range of book reviews. From nursing the poor in nineteenth-century Sunderland, and the medieval wars between England and Scotland, to road maintenance in seventeenth-century Yorkshire, there is something for everyone with an interest in the history of the north.
The issue also features an article by Angus Wallace, who has recently completed his PhD in the School of History. His article ‘A Community of Consent: Conscientious Objectors on the North Yorkshire Moors and the North East coast during the First World War’ is available open access.
And finally, readers can learn more about the history of the University of Leeds, with an article by Kenneth C. Jackson titled ‘Textiles as an Applied Science at the University of Leeds, 1904 to 1979’.
You can access the journal contents through the publisher’s website.
