Language student wins global Portuguese competition

We are immensely proud to share that Beginners Portuguese student, Rohan Franklin, has been awarded an Honourable Mention in the World Portuguese Language Day Short Story Competition.

Portuguese at Leeds are proud to share the outstanding news, that our Beginners Portuguese student, Rohan Franklin (taught by Dr. Peter Haysom), was awarded an Honourable Mention for the A1/A2 Beginners category, in the “World Portuguese Language Day Short Story Competition”, organised by the Camões Institute, the Portuguese National Reading Programme and the biggest educational Portuguese publisher, Porto Editora. 

The competition was open to all learners of Portuguese across the world and Rohan has won with his text “Um sonho” (A dream) after having studied Portuguese at Leeds for only six months! 

Sofia Martinho, Coordinator of Portuguese at Leeds, has said that Rohan joins a long line of Leeds students who have won prestigious prizes in Portuguese, including the Best Higher Education student of Portuguese in the UK (awarded by the Portuguese embassy in London), and the Ann Waterfall Student Award (run by The Anglo-Portuguese Society).
