Profile
I completed my MA in Translation Studies from the University of Salford in 2007, and followed that with a PhD in Translation Studies from the same university. The title of my dissertation was “Translation and the Construction of the Religious Other: A Sociological Approach to English Translations of Islamic Political Discourse”. In the thesis I applied Pierre Bourdieu’s sociological concepts as analytical tools to examine early translations of Islamic founding texts (The Toledo Collection), the role these translations played in the construction of the early images of Islam, and the role of Agency in these early translations. The thesis also investigated the Agency in the English translations of Islamic political discourse starting in 1920 and the aims of these translations. I have other publications around the same topic.

Research interests
My research interest is mainly in relation to the application of Bourdieu’s sociological concepts in translation. I am also interested in the role/influence of translation, and translation activity during different eras of the Islamic history. As for the Arabic language, I am interested in the Etymology of the Arabic language; and the Pedagogy of second language acquisition.
