Scholarship success for PhD Candidates
Two PhD candidates nominated by the School for the White Rose College of the Arts & Humanities (WRoCAH) scholarship were successful in their applications to support their PGR studies
In October the School will be welcoming back Clare Danek (left), who graduated from the University of Leeds with a distinction in MA Culture, Creativity and Entrepreneurship in 2016, and welcoming Emma McDowell (right), who graduated from Goldsmiths’ MA Arts Administration and Cultural Policy with a distinction in 2009 and most recently worked as Head of Marketing and Associate Producer at Harrogate Theatre, and as a freelancer producer and arts marketer.
Clare will be conducting an ethnographic study of participants in amateur craft-making, exploring in particular the differences between working alone and working together and considering the extent to which physical spaces are significant in developing and sustaining informal networks of amateur practitioners.
Emma’s PhD will analyse the relationship between artists and audiences in live performance in order to critically investigate the dominant arts marketing paradigm employed in the UK theatre sector. Emma’s research will take an anthropological approach to investigate emerging modes and models of audience engagement.
The White Rose College of the Arts & Humanities (WRoCAH) has received £19m from the AHRC to establish a Doctoral Training Partnership that will create over 300 PhD studentships and join the expertise of the Universities of Leeds, Sheffield and York.
