Tiane Yang
- Course: MA Culture, Creativity and Entrepreneurship
Tell us a bit about yourself?
Before I came to Leeds I studied Fine Arts Education at the Hubei Institute of Fine Arts in Wuhan, China.
What made you want to apply to your MA course and to Leeds?
I knew that studying abroad could give me a competitive advantage, and that I could achieve my degree in less time than it would take me in China. Leeds is one of the top universities in the UK, and this MA course really interested me.
What aspects of the course did you enjoy the most?
Our teachers add to what we learn in our classes by directing us to resources that we can use to enhance our studies. I also enjoy the practice-based elements, as I find I learn a lot from these.
What would you say about Leeds as a city?
Leeds is very lovely city, with everything you need a convenient distance away. I didn’t know much about Leeds before I came here, but I love it more and more all the time.
What would you say about the learning facilities in your School and at the University in general?
All the facilities are very easy to access, whether you need lecture rooms, computer clusters, the Library or the Language Zone.
What other activities are available for students to take part in outside of their studies, and which ones have you tried out yourself?
There is a rich variety of activities available for students, with performances, parties and trips organised by the School, the Students’ Union, and the International Office. For example, the School arranged for us to watch the Beijing Opera in Liverpool, which was a fantastic experience!
What would you say to anyone thinking of applying to your course?
Do not hesitate to apply – the course is so interesting, the teachers are so kind, and the experience will exceed your expectations. If you start on this journey, it will be an amazing one.
What do you plan to do now you’ve finished your course, and how do you think the skills and knowledge you’ve developed at Leeds will help with these plans?
I plan to enter the workplace, where I will be able to apply the skills I’ve gained during my course, such as organisation, communication, leadership and teamwork. I’m looking forward to gaining more work experience and further developing myself.
