Meng Du (杜梦)

Profile

Meng Du (杜梦) holds a PhD in Interpreting Studies from the University of Leeds, where she completed her doctoral research under the supervision of Professor Binhua Wang and Dr Callum Walker. Her research applies eye-tracking methods to investigate interpreters' cognitive processing during simultaneous interpreting, with a particular focus on human–AI interaction, ASR-generated live captions, and multimodal processing.

Her research interests lie at the intersection of Interpreting Studies, Human–AI Interaction, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and translation and interpreting technologies. She examines how AI-powered speech technologies, particularly ASR-generated live captions, influence interpreters' visual attention, cognitive effort, and interpreting performance, contributing to the development of technology-mediated interpreting and AI-enabled language services.

Prior to joining the University of Leeds, she obtained an MA from Beijing Foreign Studies University. She also completed an MSc in International Social and Public Policy at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), graduating with distinction.

As a "practisearcher," Meng has extensive experience as a freelance translator and conference interpreter, providing language services for organisations and companies in China and internationally. Her professional experience spans public policy, international relations, economics, business, and other interdisciplinary fields, informing her research and strengthening the connection between interpreting practice and technological innovation.
