MA Conference Interpreting student wins prize at International Interpreting Competition

Congratulations to Xiaoyi Yang who won second place at the BLCU International Translation and Interpreting Competition.

Xiaoyi Yang, an MA student on the Conference Interpreting and Translation Studies course at the University of Leeds, won second prize in the grand final of the 6th BLCU International Translation and Interpreting Competition held in China on 31 March 2017.

Six contestants (from almost 1500 participants) were screened through the preliminary competition to enter the grand final which was hosted by Beijing Languages and Cultures University and supported by the Division of Conference Management of the United Nations Office at Geneva, Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey, ISIT, University of Leeds, City University of Hong Kong and Macau University. 

Xiaoyi Xiao was a grand final competitor in Chinese and English bi-directional consecutive interpreting for live talks on the theme of “SDG 2030: Transforming China and the World”. The performance was commended as being “confident and calm on the stage, delivering excellent interpretations of speakers’ remarks” by the news report in China Daily.
