Foyer named after former Professor

Staff and students past and present, came together to celebrate Professor Don Rimmington's contributions.

On Thursday 11 May 2017, the School of Languages, Cultures and Societies was delighted to name the foyer on the fourth floor of the Michael Sadler building after Don Rimmington, former Professor of Chinese and inaugural Head of the School of Modern Languages and Cultures.

At a ceremony attended by both Don and his wife, Liz, former and current students plus several members of the Faculty came together to recall some of Don’s many contributions to the department of East Asian Studies and to the School more widely.

In a speech, heavily charged with emotion, Don recalled some of the key events in the department’s history, dating back to its inception in 1963.
