Find out about careers in conference interpreting and try interpreting in a booth (online and in-person)

In a hybrid session (both on Zoom, and in-person at the University), Marilena Iannidinardi discusses working for the European Commission and opportunities for interpreters after Brexit.

Marilena Iannidinardi, a University of Leeds graduate and staff interpreter at the European Commission, will give an insight into the industry and the profession. Marilena will talk about what it is like working for European institutions, and discuss opportunities for interpreters after Brexit. The EU still needs English speaking interpreters and certain languages are currently in high demand.

Staff from our MA Conference Interpreting and Translation Studies course will also be available to answer any questions you may have.

The School of Languages, Cultures and Societies is offering a number of Scholarships to students joining our courses in September 2022, with additional awards for those studying translation and interpreting. Current/former students of the University of Leeds may be eligible for a 10% alumni tuition fee bursary.

This session is primarily intended for undergraduates or graduates with interest in any of the following languages: French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, and Chinese.

If you choose to attend in person, we would like to offer you the chance to have a go at simultaneous interpreting in a booth, in one of the interpreting suites in the Parkinson building, after the session. Numbers will be limited but we will endeavour to accommodate anyone who would like to have a go.

Please register your attendance in advance – this event will be held online via Zoom, and in-person on campus. Registration is available until 15:00 on the day of the session.
